Will Apple fans upgrade en masse to the Apple iPhone 16 and ignite supercycle?

As the anticipated release of Apple’s next-generation smartphone approaches, speculation is running high. With September just around the corner, Apple enthusiasts are eager to see what the iPhone 16 series will bring. But the burning question remains: will the iPhone 16 be a hit among fans? To gauge the sentiment, American SellCell conducted a survey of over 2,000 U.S. adults who are current Apple iPhone owners. The findings reveal key insights into whether Apple users are ready to invest in the upcoming Apple iPhone 16

Survey findings: will Apple fans Upgrade?

The survey results suggest that the Apple iPhone 16 is likely to be well-received by the Apple community. A notable 61.9% of respondents indicated their intention to upgrade to the Apple iPhone 16 once it launches. This level of interest puts the iPhone 16 almost on par with the Apple iPhone 15, which saw a 66% upgrade intent among users in 2023.

One of the primary factors driving the decision to upgrade is competitive pricing. According to the survey, 30.9% of respondents cited cost as the most compelling reason to consider purchasing the new Apple iPhone 16. As Apple continues to refine its pricing strategy, affordability remains a crucial element in influencing consumer decisions.

Another significant feature that has caught the attention of iPhone users is the rumored thermal control to prevent overheating and increase AI features. These enhancements, which 48.7% of respondents highlighted as a positive factor, could sway many buyers toward upgrading, especially those who prioritize device performance and longevity.

Interestingly, the survey also uncovered a preference for larger devices, with 54.9% of respondents expressing interest in a bigger Apple iPhone. However, this preference is notably more pronounced among men (62.1%) compared to women (47.8%). The latter group expressed concerns about the usability of an even larger iPhone, suggesting that size might be a critical consideration for female buyers.

AI features: worth the wait?

One of the most anticipated aspects of the Apple iPhone 16 is its AI capabilities, which are expected to be rolled out in conjunction with iOS 18, possibly up to a month after the device's launch. This survey indicates that a whopping 82.1% of respondents are willing to wait for these AI features, demonstrating strong confidence in Apple's ability to deliver cutting-edge technology. However, 17.9% of users expressed disappointment that the AI features wouldn’t be available immediately at launch.

Will the Apple iPhone 16 be a success and start supercycle?

Based on the survey data, the Apple iPhone 16 is poised for success. With nearly 62% of current iPhone owners planning to upgrade, the device appears to be on track to achieve robust sales, even before its official release. While value for money remains a pivotal factor for both potential upgraders and those opting to stick with their current devices, other elements such as device size and delayed AI features also play a role in purchase decisions.
