PrologMobile and Swappa insights reveal key trends in secondary mobile market

Every month, the American company PrologMobile processes millions of used mobile devices through its platform, leveraging data based on the IMEI numbers of these devices. This process generates an extensive pool of data points, providing deep insights into the used mobile device supply chain. PrologMobile’s analysis of these data points helps the company identify critical trends and patterns within the secondary market, making it a valuable resource for industry professionals.

August's most traded-in smartphones

According to PrologMobile, the Apple iPhone 13 was the most traded-in device in August, continuing its top position from both July and May. The rest of the top five remains unchanged from July, except for the addition of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, which did not feature on the previous month's list. Notably, the iPhone 16 had not been released during this period.

For Android devices, the top five traded-in models in August closely mirrored July's rankings. However, there was one difference: the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which did not appear on the list in July, made its way into the August rankings.

Swappa’s best-selling phones in August

Swappa, a U.S.-based platform specialising in the sale of used mobile phones, shared its top 10 best-selling models for August. Leading the list was the Apple iPhone 12, followed by the iPhone 13, iPhone 11, and iPhone 14. This data aligns with broader trends indicating Apple’s continued dominance in both the primary and secondary markets for mobile devices.

Conclusion

The consistent demand for certain Apple's devices and the slight variations in Android trends underscore the ongoing shifts in the secondary mobile market. PrologMobile’s extensive data analysis and Swappa’s sales figures offer a clearer understanding of consumer preferences in this space.
