Swappa’s latest insights on best-selling smartphones for July 2024

Swappa, an American company specializing in the sale of used electronics, continues to dominate the secondary market for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other gadgets. Founded in 2010 by Ben Edwards, Swappa has grown from a platform primarily for Android phones to a diverse marketplace offering iPhones, laptops, smartwatches, and even gaming consoles. This evolution has been driven by the company’s stringent controls to ensure all listed devices are thoroughly inspected and meet stringent quality standards, thus minimizing risk and enhancing trust in their platform.

Every month, Swappa releases a list of the top 10 best-selling smartphones, providing valuable insights into consumer preferences in the secondary market. The latest rankings for July are now out, and once again, Apple dominates the list. This month, eight out of the top ten best-selling smartphones are from Apple, highlighting the brand's continued strong performance in the used phone market in the USA. The only two non-Apple devices to make the list are the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G and the Galaxy S22, starting at around US$ 185 and US$ 255 respectively.

Leading the Apple lineup is the iPhone 12. The most popular device of 2023, the Apple iPhone 11, secures the number three spot in July. Given this trend, the iPhone 12 will be probably most popular device this year. Moreover, the iPhone SE (2020) continues to be a favorite for those seeking a cost-effective option, especially under US$ 112, while the iPhone SE (2022) starts at around US$ 206.

The popularity of different other Apple iPhone models is notable. For July, the iPhone XR, released in 2018, remains highly sought after, along with various models from the Apple iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 series. This indicates a broad appeal across several generations of iPhones, reflecting their lasting value and reliability.

Another interesting statistic is which colors of the Apple iPhone are currently the most popular. Swappa gives us insight into the Apple iPhone 15, but this color mix also applies to other older Apple iPhone models. As expected, the black Apple iPhone is the best-selling. With a share of 42%, the other colors are not even close. In second place, with 26%, is the blue Apple iPhone, followed closely by the rose color at 22%. Yellow is the least popular with only 2%.
