EE Business, part of the UK’s largest mobile network operator, has taken its first steps into the refurbished phone market for businesses. EE, which is already offering “as good as new” used smartphones to consumers, is now catering to business customers with a range of refurbished devices. EE was formed in 2010 through a merger of T-Mobile UK and Orange UK. It is now part of BT Group, following an acquisition by BT in 2016 for £ 12.5 billion. As the largest mobile network in the UK, EE provides 4G, 5G, and broadband services to millions of customers.
The initiative aligns with EE’s broader push for sustainability and value, providing businesses with high-quality refurbished phones. The current lineup includes the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, with subscription prices starting at £31 and £20 per month, respectively. These plans include a device, data, call, and SMS bundles. However, what makes this offering stand out is the extended warranty. EE provides free repairs or replacements for manufacturer faults throughout the lifetime of the plan and includes an annual device check-up to maintain top performance.
The technical edge over cosmetic perfection
EE promises that these refurbished devices are in the best condition possible. While the phones may show minimal cosmetic imperfections, the focus is on ensuring their top technical condition. This positioning is seen by us as a clever move, highlighting the devices' performance over their appearance.
Despite this, EE could have pushed the sustainability angle further in its marketing efforts, especially given the rising demand for eco-friendly tech solutions. The initiative supports the growing circular economy, but there’s room to emphasize this benefit more to attract eco-conscious businesses.
