In 2025, climate challenges intensified for companies, with inflation, tariffs and supply chain disruptions affecting investment in renewable energy, sustainable materials and social responsibility. Environmental strategies are under threat as production shifts raise emissions and complicate labour practices.
TIME and Statista analyse 5,000 firms
To gauge corporate progress, TIME and Statista reviewed the 2025 performance of more than 5,000 major global companies. Their new “World’s Most Sustainable Companies” list ranks the top 500 performers based on over 20 environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators.
Tele2 named Sweden’s most sustainable
Swedish telecom operator Tele2 earned the top national spot and ranks 23rd globally, with a score of 79.37 out of 100. The firm was also the only telecom operator included in Corporate Knights’ “Europe’s 50 Most Sustainable Companies” list, published earlier in June.
CEO Tele2 highlights commitment to change
“We are proud to be named Sweden’s most sustainable company for the second year in a row,” said Jean Marc Harion, President and CEO of Tele2. “This recognition reflects our efforts to integrate sustainability across our operations. We will continue to push for positive change.”
Other telcos make the top 50
Tele2 was not the top telecom globally. Telefónica (Spain) secured second place overall, while Deutsche Telekom (Germany) came in 16th. Vodafone (UK) followed Tele2 in 27th place, and Dutch operator KPN ranked 36th.
Scoring based on three key pillars
Companies were assessed in three areas: external ESG commitments, transparency in reporting, and performance on key sustainability metrics such as emissions, diversity and renewable energy usage.
