As previously reported by SecondaryMarket.news, consumers in Estonia can now trade in their used Apple iPhones and other smartphones via REbox kiosks located in two ONOFF retail stores. Once a device is inserted into the terminal, it automatically evaluates its condition and provides an instant buyback offer. If the offer is accepted, the customer receives an ONOFF gift card for the quoted amount. Devices that are not suitable for reuse are responsibly recycled. Curious about how many devices are traded in? Keep reading, GET-RE is about to shed some light on the numbers.
First results show promising uptake
This week, GET-RE the company behind the development and implementation of these trade-in terminals, has shared early results of the pilot launch in Estonia. In just the first three days, 34 successful trade-ins were recorded at two terminals placed in Tallinn and Tartu. The average value of the transactions was € 92, highlighting consumer interest and market readiness for such circular solutions. A great insight of what the opportunity of such a trade-in kiosk could offer.
Retailers take the lead in reuse
The collaboration between GET-RE, Globe Commerce OÜ, and ONOFF is a significant step for circular economy initiatives in the mobile sector. For retailers, offering trade-in terminals not only brings customer value but also strengthens their role in promoting sustainable electronics. ONOFF’s participation sets a strong precedent for other regional chains to consider similar implementations.
Estonia leads in trade-in density
With the addition of REbox terminals, Estonia is gaining recognition for its high concentration of in-store automated smartphone trade-in solutions. This comes shortly after Tele2 and Ringy’s partnership with Pandas, making the small Baltic nation a frontrunner in digital reuse infrastructure per capita.
A notable step for GET-RE
This rollout marks a milestone for GET-RE and its regional partner, Globe Commerce OÜ. Special mention goes to Robert Hansen, CEO of Globe Commerce OÜ, whose leadership helped bring the project to market. With success already showing in Estonia, questions now arise about GET-RE’s next steps. While active in the Middle East and Northern Europe, will the REbox model expand to new territories in 2025?
