Spain has solidified its position as Europe’s fourth-largest e-commerce market, with 2024 turnover reaching € 32.6 billion, a 13.2% year-on-year increase. The online share of total retail stands at 12%, showing strong potential for continued growth. Electronics (used and refurbished) and fashion remain the most popular online categories, with refurbished devices playing a steadily growing role.
International players dominate sales
The top five online stores by turnover in 2024, Amazon, AliExpress, Shein, Carrefour, and Temu, are all marketplaces, highlighting their importance in Spanish e-commerce. Local players like El Corte Inglés and PC Componentes continue to compete but face intense pressure from global giants, particularly from the US and China.

The rise of refurbished electronics
Within the electronics segment, MediaMarkt and PC Componentes are key consumer destinations, while Back Market stands out for its refurbished offer. Backmarket’s visibility in Spain contrasts with its reduced role in other European markets, reflecting strong Spanish demand for competitively priced, high-quality refurbished Apple iPhones, laptops, and other tech.
New entries and category reshuffles
Carrefour’s category expansion pushed it into the generalists list, while Vinted joined the fashion category, riding the B2C second-hand wave. TradeInn entered sports, and Veepee gained ground in home, beauty, and promotional sales. eBay remains relevant in niche categories but lost its generalist ranking.
Price sensitivity drives competition
Platforms like Shein and Temu have grown explosively thanks to Spain’s highly price-conscious consumer base. For electronics and refurbished tech sellers, this environment rewards competitive pricing, fast delivery, and marketplace optimisation to capture shopper attention.
