Breezy, a subsidiary of the ASBIS Group specializing in second-life IT products, has launched a proprietary automated refurbishment facility in Raszyn, Poland. This cutting-edge site leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics to optimize smartphone grading and refurbishment. According to secondary market sources, many of the machines and software solutions were designed in-house by Breezy. The facility can process up to one million smartphones annually and refurbish up to 320,000 devices per year, all within just 600 m² of space. Featuring 18 robotic workstations, the grading and sorting line operates efficiently with only four human operators per shift. Breezy joins the rapidly expanding European automated processing and grading sector, alongside industry leaders such as rebuy, Foxway, dis-connect, Cyculus, and most recently, Concord.
Comprehensive diagnostic and sorting process
Upon arrival, smartphones pass through a registration station that automatically detects product models, IMEI, and serial numbers, erases data per NIST-800-88 standards, charges batteries, and uploads diagnostics. AI-powered visual inspections assess screen and body condition, while robotic soundproof chambers conduct audio tests across multiple frequencies. Further checks include touch functionality, button performance, and camera quality. An automated photography booth captures high-resolution images from six angles, creating a digital portfolio for each device. This transparency helps buyers make informed purchasing decisions.
Sustainable and resilient Industry 5.0 solutions
Breezy’s facility exemplifies Industry 5.0 principles by integrating human expertise with automation. Employees focus on high-value tasks while robots handle repetitive processes. Sustainability is a core focus, with over 300,000 smartphones refurbished in 2024, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 20,000 tons.
Future-proofing refurbishment with scalability
By leveraging AI and robotics, Breezy ensures consistent quality, reduces operational costs, and enhances efficiency. The company is also prepared to offer device grading as a service, providing compliance with stringent data protection standards.
