Smartphone theft continues to rise globally, prompting Samsung to call on Galaxy users to activate its latest security features. The new measures underscore Samsung’s broader focus on data protection and user control in high-risk situations. Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 7, which includes enhanced anti-theft tools and security updates. Initially launched with the Galaxy S25 series in February, the new features are now being extended to more devices throughout the year. In London last year over 80.000 devices, with an estimated value of € 58.3 million, were stolen.
Theft Protection offers layered security
A key element of the update is the Theft Protection feature, which includes several layers of protection. Built on top of Android’s standard security, it addresses increasingly complex theft scenarios such as leaked credentials or physical attacks.
New Identity Check and Security Delay
Among the most notable updates is Identity Check, which triggers biometric verification in unfamiliar locations when sensitive settings are changed. Security Delay adds a one-hour buffer before biometric data can be reset, giving users time to lock their device remotely.
Offline and remote locking functions enhanced
The enhanced Theft Protection also includes machine learning-powered Theft Detection Lock that identifies theft-related motion patterns and locks the screen. Offline Device Lock automatically triggers when a phone loses connection for an extended period. Remote Lock enables users to secure their phone and regain control via their number and quick verification.
Rollout begins with flagship Galaxy models
The updated theft protection is now being made available to previous flagship devices including the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, S23 and S22. Additional Galaxy models will receive the upgrade later this year.
