Swiss company Revendo AG has introduced its own quality label for used smartphones. The label guarantees that each device has undergone standardized testing with newly introduced software. Buyers can access detailed test results via a QR code, offering transparency into the performance of each refurbished smartphone. Revendo expects a growing demand for older Apple iPhone models in the Swiss secondary market. Since July, the Basel-based company has been using automated testing technology from Adapta Robotics, supported by its MATT robot. In addition, Revendo employees rely on new smartphone test software that enhances the consistency of quality checks. Based on these innovations, Revendo created its in-house quality label to assure customers of tested and documented standards.
Aiming for market trust
“The market for used smartphones is growing strongly but lacks a clear standard that customers can rely on,” said Aurel Greiner, co-founder and CEO of Revendo. “With our quality label we make a statement: every device is tested, transparently documented and delivers on what we promise.” The label provides insight into testing procedures and results, showing via a QR code which components were checked and how the device performed.

Strategic focus in Switzerland
After buying back Migros’ shares in Revendo, founders Aurel Greiner and Laurenz Ginat aim to strengthen value creation in Switzerland. Alongside the launch of its quality label, Revendo is also piloting a self-service trade-in concept. REbox trade-in terminals have been installed at MediaMarkt stores in Basel, Dietikon and Crissier, as well as at a Migros store, a large supermarket, in Zurich. These terminals allow customers to sell used smartphones directly, expanding convenience and efficiency in the resale process.

Building standards for the secondary market
Revendo’s approach underlines a wider movement in the secondary smartphone industry to build transparency and trust through standardized quality checks. With strong growth in the market and rising demand for refurbished Apple iPhone models, the company positions itself to capture a larger share by combining automation, software, and consumer-focused solutions.
