Refurbly expands to Qatar with Magnus Rehle as new CEO

Refurbly, the Swedish refurbished smartphone platform, is expanding its footprint into the Middle East. Magnus Rehle has stepped into the role of CEO for Refurbly Qatar, bringing extensive global experience in the telecom industry. Having worked across 85 countries and collaborated with over 40 mobile operators, Rehle sees Qatar as the ideal market to scale Refurbly’s circular economy approach.

A shift towards sustainable phone consumption

Refurbly on their business model: “We are not just selling refurbished smartphones—it is reshaping how consumers engage with mobile technology”. The company promotes a subscription-based model, similar to services like Spotify or Netflix, where users access phones without outright ownership. This aligns with its mission of reducing electronic waste and promoting more sustainable mobile consumption.

Europe, the Middle East, and Africa next

The company has ambitious plans. While Refurbly has already established itself in the European market, the move into Qatar signals a larger push across the Middle East and, eventually, Africa. By offering cost-effective and professionally refurbished smartphones, Refurbly aims to disrupt traditional ownership models and expand access to high-quality devices.
