In an unexpected twist, the recycled Apple iPhone SE claimed the number one spot on Telia Finland’s list of best-selling phones for October. The success was largely driven by an early October campaign by Telia, which increased the availability of the model in response to surging demand. The campaign underscores a growing trend among consumers toward sustainable technology choices.
Changing values drive interest in used devices
Markku Saranpää, Telia’s Head of Device Business, commented on the shift, noting that customers are increasingly interested in refurbished devices. “Recycled devices have truly caught on, and our customers' interest speaks volumes about changing values. Many are opting for refurbished devices as a way to get a premium product at a low price while also benefiting the environment,” Saranpää stated.
Telia’s commitment to circular economy practices is central to this shift. The environmental impact of electronic devices is largely rooted in manufacturing, making refurbishing a crucial step in reducing the demand for new products. Extending the lifespan of existing devices not only serves environmental goals but also aligns with consumers’ desire for cost-effective, sustainable choices.
“We constantly strive to expand our selection of recycled devices and meet customer needs. It’s important for everyone in Finland to go through their home drawers and recycle old phones. We offer fair trade-in compensation for these devices,” Saranpää encouraged.
Top-selling - phones and in October
In addition to the used Apple iPhone SE, the top 10 list for October also included newer Apple models and several Samsung devices. The business sector showed a preference for Samsung models, with seven Samsung phones appearing in the top 10.
