GET-RE’s REbox trade-in solution has made its first appearance outside traditional electronics retail. The smart terminal, designed to simplify mobile phone trade-ins, is now being piloted inside Migros, Switzerland’s largest supermarket chain. The initiative opens a new chapter for reuse and recycling in mainstream shopping environments. This marks a notable shift in strategy. In Europe, trade-in terminals are typically found in electronics or telecom stores, with a more focussed customer base. This time, GETre is targeting supermarket foot traffic, similar to the approach taken by US-based trade-in kiosk provider ecoATM, which partners with retailers like Walmart in the United States.
Revendo leads the Swiss rollout
The expansion is being driven in partnership with Revendo, the Swiss upcycling specialist founded in Basel in 2013. Revendo operates nine stores across Switzerland and one in Vienna. Known for refurbishing Apple iPhones and Android devices, the company aims to expand national device collection through a broader retail presence.
Migros focuses on sustainability services
Migros is testing REbox as part of a wider strategy to offer sustainable services across its 600+ locations. A cooperative with over 2 million members, Migros is well-known for its community-focused model and environmental responsibility. Mobile phone recycling fits well within this broader sustainability agenda.
A flexible terminal for modern retail
REbox was developed by GET-RE to offer a fast, user-friendly experience that integrates with today’s retail flows. After placements at MediaMarkt, the move into Migros showcases the adaptability of the concept. REbox terminals under the Revendo brand are placed to reach more consumers in their everyday routines.
Pilot results will shape expansion
If successful, the Migros pilot could trigger a national rollout. Revendo sees REbox as key to scaling its circular model, while GET-RE aims to drive store traffic and support retailers’ sustainability goals. Both companies view this as a step forward for tech reuse in accessible, high-footfall locations.
