Piceasoft appoints Juha Niittymäki as sales director to accelerate growth

Finnish mobile lifecycle software company Piceasoft has appointed Juha Niittymäki as its new Sales Director, effective 1 January 2026. The promotion follows his tenure as partner manager, a role he assumed only in March last year, and signals a strategic emphasis on commercial execution as the company navigates a very competitive and increasingly regulated secondary smartphone market.

Industry experience shapes direction

Juha Niittymäki brings nearly 15 years of experience from Apple, where he served in regional account management and area store leadership roles. His background in managing complex partner ecosystems and retail operations is expected to strengthen Piceasoft’s engagement with mobile operators, retailers, and refurbishment partners seeking scalable solutions for trade in, diagnostics, and device lifecycle optimisation.

Nokia roots and platform focus

Founded in 2012 in Tampere as a spin off from Nokia, Piceasoft was established by former Nokia employees to address emerging needs within the circular economy. Its PiceaServices platform delivers modular software covering secure data erasure, automated device diagnostics, and seamless data transfer, enabling efficient trade in flows and repair processes across professional electronics channels.

Global reach and market role

Today, Piceasoft operates in more than 70 countries, positioning itself as a European technology provider focused on digitalising the used smartphone market. By supporting consistent device grading, data security, and process automation, the company plays a role in improving trust and operational efficiency across increasingly mature secondary mobile value chains.

Financial performance context

According to publicly available data from Proff.fi, Piceasoft reported revenue of approximately € 4.6 million in 2021, accompanied by a loss of just under €1 million. In 2023, revenue declined to €2.9 million while losses increased to €1.8 million. More recent indicators suggest revenue is recovering while losses are narrowing, underscoring the importance of disciplined commercial execution.

Back Market recognition strengthens trust

In May, Piceasoft joined Back Market’s Verified Refurbished status elite, following similar approvals granted to Phonecheck and Blancco. Official recognition as a testing solution for Verified Refurbished smartphones enhances Piceasoft’s credibility as quality assurance and transparency become critical to scaling circular electronics business models.

Sales leadership and circular ambition

With Juha Niittymäki now leading sales, Piceasoft is expected to sharpen its focus on partnerships, revenue growth, and long-term value creation. The appointment reflects broader industry momentum, where experienced leadership is increasingly central to aligning software infrastructure, sustainability outcomes, and profitability in the global recommerce economy.
