Orange and French La Poste have partnered to extend the lifecycle of network equipment used during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This initiative aligns with both companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, focusing on reducing the environmental impact of digital technology while contributing to the Paris 2024 legacy. The project prioritizes repurposing equipment for new applications and locations after the games.
Large-scale and responsible reuse
During the Olympics, thousands of Wi-Fi terminals and other advanced telecom devices were deployed. These devices, which were used briefly and thoroughly tested for performance, availability, and durability, will now be repurposed by La Poste at key locations in Paris and local communities. For instance, La Poste’s Innovation Hub in Nantes, employing over 800 IT professionals, will benefit from these high-performing devices.
The repurposed equipment is expected to enhance network operational efficiency for La Poste employees while ensuring superior connectivity and service levels. Additionally, this integration supports further digital transformation and facilitates smoother operation of IT tools across various environments.
Shared ambitions for sustainability
Orange and La Poste share a vision of adopting responsible and sustainable practices. This collaboration reflects their commitment to prolonging the lifecycle of telecom equipment, already a proven success with Orange infrastructure supporting La Poste. It underscores their dedication to reducing their ecological footprint and promoting awareness within their ecosystems.
Both companies aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and implement sustainable procurement practices, particularly in IT. Orange offers eco-friendly products and second-hand network equipment to its customers, while La Poste emphasizes ethical digital practices. Their policies focus on optimizing the use of natural and non-renewable resources and extending the lifespan of IT equipment through repair and reuse initiatives.
La Poste on cooperation
“La Poste Group aims to reduce the ecological footprint of its tools and applications, particularly given resource scarcity and growing digitalization. Reusing network equipment from the Olympic Games perfectly aligns with our commitment to responsible digital practices,” said Philippe Bajou, Secretary General of La Poste Group.
