On the 54th World Environment Day, OPPO has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, the fifth consecutive edition of the company’s annual environmental disclosure. The report reveals that OPPO reached peak carbon emissions across its own operations in 2022, two years ahead of target, and is actively reducing its environmental impact across its product lifecycle.
Carbon emissions fall across the board
OPPO confirmed a 3.2% year-on-year reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions in 2024, equal to the annual CO₂ absorption of over 514,000 mature trees. Scope 3 emissions were also down by 9.3%, reflecting the company’s efforts to engage supply chain partners in emission reduction strategies.
Eco-design reduces packaging waste
Circular practices remain central to OPPO’s sustainability roadmap. The company now applies lightweight packaging design across its full smartphone portfolio, cutting paper use by 10 tons per million units produced. In Europe, the proportion of recycled materials in phone packaging has grown from 45% to 55%. Natural residues like sugarcane and bamboo are increasingly replacing conventional paper inputs.
Innovation with accessibility and health in mind
With over 113,000 patent applications globally, OPPO invests heavily in inclusive and health-centric technology. Its smartphones offer AI-driven features for vision and hearing accessibility, while OPPO smartwatches provide real-time insights into heart rate, sleep, and even blood pressure risk through the world’s largest real-world dataset for hypertension prediction.
Cultural programs and community support
OPPO has donated over € 57 million in 2024 to social initiatives. Collaborations with UNESCO and Discovery Channel promote cultural heritage and education, while the UEFA Champions League partnership supports grassroots football development in Brazil, Egypt, and Mexico.
