Reeva’s use case: Transforming operations at iTek
We spoke with Darren Workman, founder of iTek, a Northern Ireland-based company specializing in the refurbishment, resale, and recycling of used electronics, particularly smartphones. Since its establishment in 2014, iTek has operated out of Magherafelt, County Londonderry, steadily earning a strong reputation in the secondary mobile market. In March 2024, the company implemented NSYS Reeva into its processes, acquiring two machines: one for device testing and grading and the other for training.
Why NSYS Reeva?
When asked why he chose Reeva, Workman emphasized its practicality and efficiency: "The machine is about the size of a small microwave and can fit easily into any repair shop or small depot facility," he explained. This compact design eliminates the need for large warehouses, making it accessible for smaller operations. Reeva’s ability to integrate seamlessly with iTek’s existing systems was a major draw. The device automates grading and testing tasks that were previously conducted manually. Workman described how the implementation streamlined their processes: "We’ve kept our established workflow but made it significantly more accurate and efficient. Reeva can fully test and grade a smartphone in under seven minutes, enabling us to process up to 10 devices an hour—a huge improvement."
For businesses processing more than 10 devices daily, Workman believes Reeva is an ideal and profitable investment. Companies can easily set up a full production line with multiple Reeva machines, all operated by just one employee. According to Workman, “Reeva is almost an end-to-end testing and grading device. You insert a device, and Reeva handles the rest.“ One of its key features is the built-in auto-erase function, which ensures no data is left on the device after testing. However, Workman points out, “The only thing Reeva doesn’t do is pack the device.” This highlights how Reeva automates nearly every step of the testing and grading process, improving efficiency and streamlining operations for companies handling small to larger volumes of devices.
Reeva in repairs
Beyond grading and testing, Workman shared an innovative application for Reeva in the repair process. "Before returning repaired devices to customers, we use Reeva to conduct a comprehensive test. This confirms that the issue has been resolved and identifies any defects that might have been overlooked,"* he said. The resulting test report not only reassures customers but also serves as evidence of the phone’s condition at the time of repair. "This transparency has saved us money and minimized disputes. Customers trust the clear, unbiased results from what they perceive as an external partner," Workman added.
Tackling grading challenges
Grading devices accurately is one of the most challenging aspects of the refurbishment process, but Reeva’s flexibility and precision make it a standout tool. The system allows users to customize settings based on different client profiles while maintaining an industry-leading level of accuracy. Workman noted that Reeva excels in grading darker-colored devices, achieving near-perfect accuracy. "While it struggles slightly with lighter-colored devices, the results are still impressive," he said. Despite minor limitations, automated grading consistently outperforms human assessments, offering more reliable outcomes for mid to high-volume operations.
Reeva’s impact at iTek
Since adopting Reeva, iTek has significantly enhanced its productivity and customer satisfaction. The automation has reduced processing times, increased throughput, and provided consistent, high-quality results that strengthen client relationships. Workman summed up Reeva’s value in a nutshell: "It’s an essential tool for any business looking to scale while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in processing." With Reeva, iTek demonstrates how small businesses can leverage advanced automation to stay competitive in the dynamic secondary mobile and repair market. By embracing technology like Reeva, companies like iTek are paving the way for more efficient, reliable, and customer-centric operations.
