MusicMagpie wins eBay UK’s first lifetime achievement award

MusicMagpie, the UK circular economy pioneer specialising in refurbished consumer technology, has been honoured with eBay UK’s first-ever lifetime achievement award. Founded in 2007 in Stockport, the company has grown from selling second-hand CDs and DVDs to becoming a major online retailer of refurbished smartphones, tablets and other technology.

A milestone built on trust

MusicMagpie recently became the first global eBay seller to surpass 20 million positive reviews, an unprecedented achievement reflecting years of customer trust. The recognition came during eBay’s ninth annual Top Seller Awards, held last week in Mayfair, London, celebrating the UK’s most successful online sellers.

From humble beginnings to industry recognition

Steve Oliver, CEO and founder of musicMagpie, expressed pride in how far the company has come. “I’m delighted and humbled that the business that started out of my garage 18 years ago has been recognised in this way,” he said. “eBay has been so important to our success over the years, and it’s been a huge effort from the whole musicMagpie team to get us to this point.”

Part of the AO family

MusicMagpie was acquired by the online retail giant AO last year, expanding its operational reach and customer base. Following the award, AO founder and CEO John Roberts said: “Congratulations to Steve and the team. We’re proud to have your experience, culture and capability as part of the AO family.”

Rewarding sustainable business success

As part of the recognition, musicMagpie and other category winners will receive € 11,700 (£1 0,000), tailored business support, and a feature in eBay’s Seller Stories video series. Eve Williams, VP and GM of eBay UK, highlighted the company’s impressive journey: “It started with a listing of an ABBA Gold album on eBay in 2007, and with over 47 million items sold and over 20 million positive reviews, musicMagpie is now the most successful eBay seller in UK history.”

Driving circular commerce forward

Williams added that musicMagpie’s commitment to quality and innovation has helped redefine the resale market over nearly two decades. “They are a true leader in circular commerce and customer confidence,” she said. “I am beyond thrilled to celebrate their success with the first-ever eBay UK Lifetime Achievement Award.”
