Tokyo-based MTN, formerly Movable Trade Networks, reported sales of approximately € 20.4 million for the fiscal year ending May 2025, a 20% increase from the previous period. The company focuses on buying and selling used PCs, office equipment, and network devices, while also providing data erasure services that comply with international standards. Expansion into routers, switches, and other network devices has helped MTN meet stringent information security requirements and capture new business opportunities.
Data erasure underpins business strategy
Although most revenue comes from resale of used devices, data erasure remains a core strategic pillar. Approximately 10% of MTN’s revenue is directly linked to erasure services. Through cooperation with FutureDial, supplier of automated and robotized grading and processing machines, MTN uses advanced solutions to generate detailed logs confirming when and how each device is erased. This capability allows corporate clients to verify compliance and ensures secure resale.
Strategic sourcing partnerships
MTN acquires most of its devices through alliances and consignment agreements with major partners, including NTT Finance Asset Service and EPC Japan. These agreements provide a steady supply of preowned equipment for reuse while supporting responsible recycling and corporate sustainability goals.
Auction model drives domestic sales
Once data erasure is complete, devices are sold primarily to domestic businesses through MTN’s auction-style bidding system. Over 30 companies regularly participate, reflecting strong demand for properly erased and verified secondary IT assets.
GIGA School and Windows 10 impact
Programs like the GIGA School initiative and the end of Windows 10 support have created high volumes of used PCs. MTN currently processes 50,000 to 60,000 Windows 10 units per month. Devices unsuitable for reuse are recycled responsibly, while even Chromebooks now hold resale value when erased and verified.
FutureDial collaboration strengthens security
MTN’s partnership with FutureDial is central to its expansion into secure secondary distribution. FutureDial’s NDSE software allows MTN to securely erase network devices and maintain full erasure logs, providing proof of compliance and enabling large-scale reuse instead of disposal.
Shifting mindset toward reuse
MTN aims to change the perception of devices from “waste” to “erase and reuse.” By redirecting school and corporate assets into the secondary market, the company sees long-term growth potential while ensuring strict data security standards.
