Jusit celebrates four years of growth as demand for refurbished smartphones rises in Switzerland

In Switzerland’s evolving mobile phone market, Jusit—a brand of refurbished smartphones—has marked its fourth anniversary with notable growth. Established by Mobilezone, a large Swiss e-tailer active in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, Jusit offers consumers a sustainable alternative to buying new devices. With around 8% of all smartphones sold by Mobilezone from January to August 2024 being Jusit devices, the brand is gaining momentum as demand for refurbished technology rises.

A growing preference for sustainable, local alternatives

Founded in 2020, Jusit provides refurbished phones that are thoroughly tested and restored at Mobilezone’s dedicated facility in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. Roger Wassmer, CEO of Mobilezone Switzerland, underscores the brand's unique value: “With Jusit, we created a sustainable, unique brand in the Swiss market. From customer trade-ins to online sales and in-store purchases, we cover the entire value chain within Switzerland.”

This locally managed process of collecting, refurbishing, and reselling smartphones offers consumers an eco-friendly, quality alternative to new phones, and it reflects Mobilezone’s commitment to sustainability and economic growth within Switzerland. The increase in demand is evident; from January to August 2024, refurbished smartphones accounted for 7.7% of Mobilezone’s total smartphone sales, nearly double the percentage from the same period in 2023.

Expanded accessibility in Swiss retail locations

With Jusit’s popularity on the rise, Mobilezone is expanding its retail presence. By the end of 2024, a hundred stores across Switzerland will carry Jusit’s smartphone range, making it even easier for customers to view and purchase refurbished phones in-store. Additionally, Jusit smartphones are now available in bundles with Swisscom, Wingo, TalkTalk, and Salt subscriptions, broadening consumer choice and flexibility.

Among Jusit’s best-selling refurbished models this year are Apple’s iPhone 13 and iPhone 12, as well as Samsung’s S23 Ultra, proving that high-demand models remain attractive even when refurbished. These devices come from Mobilezone’s exchange program, where customers can trade in their used phones at any Mobilezone store or submit them online.

Jusit: a core part of Mobilezone’s sustainability strategy

As an integral part of Mobilezone’s sustainability strategy, Jusit helps extend smartphone lifespans while saving valuable raw materials and reducing emissions that would otherwise be generated by producing new devices. Since 2020, Mobilezone’s sustainability initiative has focused on the environmental impact of mobile technology, with refurbished devices like Jusit directly supporting the company’s CO2 reduction goals.

Mobilezone has been accepting and refurbishing used but functional smartphones for over a decade, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to sustainable practices. Certified technicians at the Rotkreuz repair center ensure data security, quality control, and restoration using original replacement parts, resulting in high-quality, eco-friendly devices for Swiss consumers.
