Cooperation between GET-RE and Interzero: placement of trade-in kiosks across Germany

Interzero, a large German circular solution provider, and Israeli start-up GET-RE have joined forces to introduce ReBox, an AI-driven trade-in solution for smartphones aimed at making sustainability more accessible to consumers. By setting up autonomous trade-in terminals equipped with advanced AI, ReBox simplifies the smartphone trade-in process. Users can evaluate and exchange their old devices for instant value vouchers, helping reduce e-waste and promote resource conservation. “ReBox is more than tech—it’s a critical step toward sustainability,” said Jan Höschel, CEO of Interzero Product Cycle.

Bringing convenience to a sustainable trade-in process

With estimates, from German researchers working for Bitkom, showing that over 200 million unused phones are stored in German households, ReBox provides a low-barrier way to reintroduce these devices into the secondary market. By placing ReBox terminals in high-traffic retail locations, Interzero and GET-RE aim to make trading in old devices quick and easy. Customers simply place their device in the trade-in kiosk, and in minutes, the AI-powered system provides a valuation, followed by a voucher redeemable in-store. After collection, devices are securely erased, refurbished, and resold or responsibly recycled by Interzero.

How ReBox contributes to sustainable development goals

ReBox aligns with Interzero’s mission to reduce e-waste and extend product lifecycles. By encouraging consumers to trade in, rather than discard, old smartphones, ReBox directly supports the circular economy. Interzero oversees data erasure, device refurbishment, and remarketing, complying with stringent environmental and data security standards, providing consumers with confidence in sustainable trade-ins.

Expanding ReBox’s footprint across the EU market

Looking forward, Interzero and GET-RE aim to expand the ReBox terminals across the EU, facilitating broader consumer access to sustainable trade-in options. "Our vision is to use technology to solve real-world problems," said Itzik Chayun, CEO of GET-RE, adding, "ReBox offers a simple, sustainable way for consumers and retailers to trade in smartphones while supporting global sustainability goals.” The AI-driven ReBox terminals could also help retailers enhance their eco-friendly offerings, reflecting the growing consumer preference for sustainable products.
