Google adds refurbished Pixel 8 models to its US online store

Google has expanded its Certified Refurbished Store in the United States to include the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The 128 GB Pixel 8 is listed at approximately $ 489 (~€ 420), while the 256 GB model costs $ 539 (~€ 462). The refurbished Pixel 8 Pro starts at $ 699 (~€ 600). All models come directly from Google with the company’s standard warranty and return policy. Both refurbished models are identical to new devices in hardware and functionality. The Pixel 8 series was the first to feature Google’s extended software commitment of seven years of operating system and security updates. This means the refurbished models will continue to receive updates until 2030.

Each refurbished phone undergoes inspection, functional testing, and cosmetic grading before resale. Devices that do not meet Google’s quality standards are replaced with approved components. US buyers receive a warranty equivalent to that of other Certified Refurbished Google products, offering an alternative to third-party refurbishers with varying standards.

Comparison with current models

The refurbished Pixel 8 sits close in price to the newly released Pixel 9a, which sells for about $ 499 (~€ 428). The 9a features Google’s newer Tensor G4 processor, a slightly larger display, and one extra year of software support lasting through 2032.

While the newer model offers a more recent platform, the Pixel 8 maintains advantages in camera performance and charging speed. The device’s larger primary camera sensor and refined image processing software continue to be well regarded. The decision between the two largely depends on whether a buyer prioritises camera performance or longer-term software support.

Assessing the Pixel 8 Pro’s value

The refurbished Pixel 8 Pro, priced around € 600, provides a larger LTPO display and the most advanced camera system within Google’s lineup. However, market fluctuations mean that new or discounted devices occasionally approach similar pricing. Other refurbishers have listed comparable units below € 500, though without the same warranty coverage or official quality control.

Outlook for buyers

For consumers in the United States, these additions provide access to Google’s 2023 flagship hardware at lower entry prices, combined with full software support through the end of the decade. Availability remains limited to U.S. customers currently, and no timeline has been announced for other regions availability. But no doubts: other countries will follow shortly.
