Galeria has introduced a new service in partnership with German recommerce specialist mySWOOOP in 20 of its department stores. Customers can now sell used smartphones and tablets directly on-site, either for cash or as a Galeria voucher with an additional 10% bonus. This development expands Galeria’s business model into recommerce and strengthens its sustainability profile.
Refurbished Apple and Samsung devices
In addition to device trade-ins, Galeria customers can now purchase refurbished Apple iPhones and Samsung smartphones supplied by #GOECO directly in-store. With this move, Galeria not only responds to growing demand for refurbished electronics but also positions itself as a player in the circular economy.
Galeria focuses on sustainability and value
Christian Sailer, Chief Financial Officer of Galeria, explained the strategic motivation behind the partnership. “We plan our partnerships around the needs of our local customers. It is important that services and the topic of sustainability in our stores are up to date and that brick-and-mortar retail provides real added value. Only in this way can Galeria’s relevance as the heart of city centers be strengthened.”
mySWOOOP promises speed and transparency
For mySWOOOP, the collaboration is about speed and customer experience. Founder and CEO Simon Gabriel highlighted the instant payout service that sets them apart. “We are the Lieferando of re-commerce, connecting customers with physical retail. Many online trade-ins take too long, which causes frustration. That’s exactly why we recently developed our instant in-store payout. Customers can value their device online and then take it directly to one of our over 470 partners. Those who hand in their device on-site receive their money immediately without waiting time. At the same time, we gain access to valuable technology that would otherwise remain unused in drawers. A true win-win-win situation.”
Galeria strengthens its retail relevance
Once Germany’s largest department store operator, Galeria has faced multiple restructurings in recent years. With a reduced store network of around 90 locations and new ownership since 2024, the company is reinventing itself as a local marketplace combining retail, services, and sustainability. The partnership with mySWOOOP reflects this strategy and is designed to attract a younger target group to city-center stores while strengthening Galeria’s position in an increasingly digital retail landscape.
