Flip.ro, a Romanian refurbisher founded in 2019, has achieved remarkable growth in the fiscal year 2023, reporting a revenue of € 56.4 million. This figure represents a 46% increase compared to the € 38.3 million reported in the previous fiscal year. Despite the impressive revenue growth, the company has yet to disclose its profit or loss figures, leaving industry analysts guessing.
Expanding customer base and new product categories
Since its launch, Flip.ro has attracted over 400,000 customers who have bought or sold electronic devices through its platform. In addition, more than 14,000 businesses have utilized Flip Business’s circular solutions. Last year, Flip introduced tablets as a new product category on its website, which has already generated over €1 million in sales. As of March this year, customers can also sell their tablets directly on the platform, further enhancing Flip's service offerings.
Growing infrastructure
To accommodate its rapid growth, Flip.ro expanded its headquarters in Bucharest last year. The facility now covers 2,060 square meters, with 1,360 square meters dedicated to internal services. This expansion also led to the growth of the Flip team, which now includes more than 240 employees, over 150 of whom work exclusively in service roles. According to George Moroianu, co-founder and CEO of Flip.ro, "We need more space and specialists to support future product categories."
International expansion into new markets
In 2022, Flip.ro extended its reach beyond Romania, expanding into Bulgaria and Hungary, with Greece joining the list last year. These three markets accounted for approximately 35% of Flip’s total sales in the past year. To ensure high-quality service, all orders from these countries are processed through the Bucharest headquarters, where the devices are refurbished.
Future Plans
Looking ahead to remainder of 2024, Flip.ro is preparing to introduce two new product categories: laptops and smartwatches. In the initial phase, only Apple products will be offered, with plans to diversify the available brands later. The company aims to launch these categories in time for the upcoming back-to-school season, allowing users to purchase MacBooks and Apple Watches alongside the existing offerings of phones and tablets.
Flip.ro's origins and growth
Flip.ro was founded by local entrepreneurs Alin Luca, Alex Burghelia, and George Moroianu. Since 2021, the company has been part of the eMAG group, which has provided € 8 million in funding to support its growth. With its expanding product offerings and international presence, Flip.ro is poised to become a leading player in the secondary electronics market in Eastern Europe.
