Dutch sustainable smartphone manufacturer Fairphone has officially unveiled the Fairphone 6 during an international launch event in Amsterdam. The company aims to expand its user base with this sixth-generation device, which introduces improved sustainability features while maintaining the brand’s modular design principles.
Modular design still central
True to Fairphone’s legacy, the Fairphone 6 is designed for easy repairs. The device includes twelve replaceable components such as the screen, camera and battery. This modular battery approach aligns with the latest EU EcoDesign regulations that became in place last Friday 20 June 2025. Fairphone is probably the first company that launches a smartphone designed with EU’s EcoDesign taken into account. Another first for Fairphone.

Sustainability improvements highlighted
Fairphone claims the new model has the lowest carbon footprint in its history. Over 50% of the materials used are either recycled or, what they call. fairly sourced, up from 42% in the previous Fairphone 5. Additionally, the device is smaller and 9% lighter than its predecessor, and it incorporates 14 different fair or recycled materials. Next to buying an used phone, a Fairphone is the best alternative.
New software mode reduces distractions
The Fairphone 6 introduces “Fairphone Moments,” a feature that allows users to switch between full and minimalist smartphone modes. This is designed to help users reduce distractions and manage notifications more effectively.
Technical specifications and availability
The Fairphone 6 were leaked last week. No surprise as it features a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED screen, and a 50MP main camera. The device is IP55-certified, offers software updates until 2033, and comes with a five-year warranty. It will retail for € 599. And that is surprise as the market expected € 549.
