UK-based distributor Exertis IT has acquired Apple Authorised Service Provider Group 8, further expanding its commitment to the circular economy. This move includes leasing a larger facility to scale up service operations. Exertis, already active in device refurbishment through MTR Group, now adds high-level repair services to its portfolio with the Group 8 acquisition.
Group 8 brings two decades of experience
Group 8 is a specialist in Apple product repairs and support, with over 20 years of experience. The company offers a wide range of services, including repairs for Apple iPhones, iPads, iMacs, MacBooks, and Apple Watches. Its nationwide Collect & Return Repair Service features insured transport with bespoke packaging. The company also provides support contracts covering remote, telephone, and onsite assistance, maintaining Apple systems and applications for business clients.
Strategic fit for Exertis' second life plans
Rod McCarthy, Group Managing Director of Exertis IT, said the acquisition is “a fantastic addition” to their service strategy. He highlighted the importance of preparing for upcoming circular economy regulations and emphasized Group 8’s role in boosting the “second life” market.
Sustainability through service and repair
Group 8 will continue to operate under its existing leadership, ensuring continuity. Together with MTR Group, which already refurbishes Samsung devices, Exertis can now offer a full spectrum of lifecycle services—from repair to resale—helping reduce electronic waste and improve device longevity.
Ownership twist adds intrigue
The timing of the acquisition is particularly notable, given that parent company DCC has signaled its intention to sell Exertis to focus more on its energy business. This makes the investment in circular infrastructure all the more strategic, potentially boosting Exertis' value for prospective buyers.
