Euronics Deutschland eG, one of Germany’s largest cooperatives for independent electrical retailers, is making a tangible move toward sustainability with the launch of its new in-store Repair Corners. These repair stations allow customers to have their defective electronic devices professionally repaired instead of purchasing new ones, reflecting a growing commitment to the circular economy.
A cooperative with deep roots
Headquartered in Ditzingen, Euronics Deutschland eG was established in 2004 through the merger of several long-standing trade associations, including Interfunk and Ruefach. Today, the cooperative represents more than 1,200 member outlets across Germany and is a key player within the international EURONICS International retail group. Beyond providing marketing, purchasing, and operational services to its members, Euronics is increasingly positioning itself as a leader in sustainable retail practices.
Repair Corners promote green business
The Repair Corners initiative forms part of the Life EPICS project, a European Commission–funded program aimed at promoting green business, sustainability, and circular economic models. Each Repair Corner serves as a small, in-store station where customers can drop off broken electronic devices for expert repair. These repair areas are designed with sustainability in mind, featuring recycled wood construction, PVC-free signage, and banners made from environmentally friendly fabrics.
Professional repairs at local level
Every Repair Corner is linked to a local or regional workshop to ensure quick, professional repair services. This model not only extends the lifespan of electronic devices but also reduces electronic waste and resource consumption. The approach aligns with the European Union’s broader goals to encourage repair over replacement, supporting consumers who wish to make environmentally conscious choices without compromising on quality or convenience.
Pilot stores lead the way
The first pilot locations were launched in May 2025 at Euronics XXL Lauterbach and Euronics XXL Johann & Wittmer. Both stores have reported strong customer interest in the new service. Encouraged by these early results, Euronics has confirmed that additional Repair Corners are already being planned in other member stores across Germany.
A visible step toward transformation
With the Repair Corners, Euronics brings its sustainability strategy directly to the shop floor, offering customers a hands-on way to contribute to circular consumption. The initiative illustrates that repair can be a viable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible alternative to replacement. As electronic retailers across Europe face increasing regulatory and consumer pressure to reduce waste, Euronics’ model could serve as a blueprint for others in the industry.
