EG America has joined forces with re-commerce leader ecoATM to launch smart device trade-in kiosks at select high-traffic retail locations. These kiosks provide a fast, convenient way for customers to recycle used smartphones, including Apple iPhones, in exchange for instant cash—supporting both companies’ shared commitment to sustainability. ecoATM strategically places its kiosks in areas with high footfall, such as shopping malls and, in this case, convenience stores at petrol stations. In Europe, another trend is emerging: Pandas is focusing on partnerships with telecom and consumer electronics retailers, while GET-RE, with their ReBox, is taking a more diversified approach.
Simple, fast and secure process
ecoATM’s kiosks evaluate and price devices in minutes, offering immediate payment if the customer accepts the quote. Whether old, broken or still functional, the devices are either refurbished or responsibly recycled. This process ensures minimal electronic waste and maximizes resource reuse.
A win for customers and the planet
Nick Unkovic, chief transformation and strategy officer at EG America, noted that the initiative reflects the company’s goal of adding value through innovation. “We’re committed to finding new and innovative ways to differentiate our stores while also providing value and convenience to our guests,” he said.
Kiosks debut in multiple states
The rollout began in early 2025 with kiosks appearing in stores under four of EG’s brands across nine states. EG America, which operates over 1,500 convenience stores in 31 states, plans to expand the installation to more than 500 kiosks by the end of the year.
ecoATM’s growing environmental impact
Neil Fried, senior vice president at ecoATM Gazelle, emphasized the environmental benefit: over 50 million devices collected to date, avoiding CO₂ emissions equivalent to removing more than 3,300 cars from the road annually.
