ecoATM strengthens leadership for next growth phase

ecoATM has announced the appointment of three senior executives, marking a strategic leadership expansion as the company enters a new phase of development within the global recommerce landscape. The additions underline a focus on technology, financial discipline, and product innovation. Amit Gaur has joined as chief digital and technology officer, bringing experience in e-commerce, omni-channel architecture, and scalable digital ecosystems. His mandate is to strengthen ecoATM’s digital foundation and support long-term, technology driven growth. Ali Sadiq has been appointed chief financial officer. With a background in financial strategy and operational execution, he is expected to guide ecoATM through its next scaling phase while maintaining financial discipline. Akshay Singhal returns to ecoATM as senior vice president of product. He will lead product strategy and oversee the development of new solutions aimed at advancing sustainable recommerce models.

Focus on resilient organisation

According to the company, the leadership appointments reflect a commitment to building a more resilient and future ready organisation. ecoATM positions these roles as central to aligning operational scale with sustainability goals and consumer expectations in device trade in markets. The company has operated for more than a decade in the automated trade in segment and continues to invest in both physical infrastructure and backend processing capabilities. Leadership continuity and renewed expertise are presented as essential to sustaining that momentum.

Kiosk network expansion

ecoATM operates more than 6,500 active trade-in kiosks across the United States and Canada, forming one of the largest physical footprints in the recommerce sector. These kiosks offer instant cash for used consumer electronics, with Apple iPhone devices representing a significant share of collected volume.  SecondaryMarket.news calculations indicate that ecoATM Gazelle kiosks average 5.15 devices traded in per day across North America. This utilisation rate is notably higher than figures reported by other automated trade in terminal operators, highlighting strong consumer engagement. ecoATM reports that its warehouses process an average of 33,506 devices each day, equating to more than 12 million devices annually. Not all of these devices originate from kiosks, but the figures illustrate the scale of the company’s reverse logistics operation.

Measured sustainability impact

In 2024, ecoATM collected 6.7 million used devices. This activity helped prevent an estimated 1,496,000 kilograms of electronic waste and avoided approximately 278,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Since launching in 2009, the company has diverted more than 50 million devices from landfills. Each reused device is estimated to save around 54 kilograms of CO₂ compared to manufacturing a new unit. ecoATM positions these outcomes as evidence that automated trade in can deliver measurable environmental benefits when deployed at scale.

Position in recommerce market

Founded in 2008 by Mark Bowles, ecoATM Gazelle has grown into the largest trade in company in the United States. With a combination of physical kiosks, centralised processing, and growing leadership depth, the company continues to influence how consumers and businesses participate in sustainable device reuse.
