ecoATM, a long-standing player in the recommerce industry, strengthened its impact in 2024 through aggressive expansion and a deeper focus on sustainability. With over 6,500 active trade in kiosks across the United States, the company aims to extend the life of electronic devices and reduce electronic waste.
Millions of devices repurposed
In 2024, ecoATM collected 6.7 million used devices, helping to prevent 3.3 million pounds of e-waste and 278,000 tons of CO₂ emissions. Since its launch in 2009, the company has diverted more than 50 million devices from landfills. Each reused device is estimated to save 120 pounds of CO₂ compared to manufacturing a new one.
Based on our estimates, ecoATM had an average of around 5,250 operational kiosks throughout the year, as its network expanded significantly in 2024. This equates to approximately 1,276 devices traded in per kiosk over the year—or about three devices per kiosk per day. These figures suggest that further growth in trade-in volumes will likely require continued expansion of kiosk deployment to reach more consumers in more locations.
Valuable materials recovered efficiently
The company’s process enables the recovery of precious materials from discarded electronics. In 2024 alone, ecoATM reclaimed over 230,000 pounds of copper, 5,000 pounds of silver, 509 pounds of gold and 346 pounds of palladium. In total, it has recovered more than 1.7 million pounds of copper and 38,000 pounds of silver since inception.
Governance and compliance at its core
With 415 employees, ecoATM adheres to R2:2013 standards and holds ISO certifications for environmental, safety, and data security management. It maintains a strict code of conduct and enforces ethical practices across its supply chain.
