Breezy and Nedbank launch online Trade-In in South Africa

Refurbishment specialist Breezy, a subsidiary of ASBIS Group, has partnered with Nedbank to bring South Africa’s first fully online trade-in program to market. The program, branded AVO Trade-In, will be integrated into Avo SuperShop, Nedbank’s digital commerce platform. The collaboration is a major step forward in digitising access to sustainable smartphone upgrades across the region.

First fully online trade-in for Apple iPhones

Initially limited to Apple iPhones, the new trade-in service allows customers to complete the entire process online. This includes registering an old device, getting a valuation, and using the value as a discount for a new purchase. Devices from other smartphone brands will be added in future phases.

Avo SuperShop’s growing digital reach

Avo SuperShop, launched in 2020 by Nedbank, serves as a multifunctional e-commerce platform and digital financial service. By the end of 2024, it reached 2.8 million users in South Africa, reflecting a 9% annual growth. With this trade-in integration, the platform strengthens its position in digital retail and circular economy services.

Trade-In supports affordability and sustainability

“With tech prices climbing, South Africans are looking for smarter and more cost-effective ways to upgrade,” said Vishal Maharaj of Nedbank. Breezy’s model, focused on reuse and refurbishment, aligns with broader environmental goals including reduced CO₂ emissions and electronic waste.

Breezy continues its African expansion

Following a recent launch in South Africa through a franchise model and a partnership with Digital Planet, Breezy sees the agreement with Nedbank as a critical milestone. “We see tremendous potential in this region,” said Breezy General Manager Andrii Kosar.

ASBIS brings Apple experience to Africa

“As Apple’s authorised distributor in Africa, ASBIS is committed to making Apple devices more affordable,” said Timi Otukoya of ASBIS Africa. Trade-in is central to this ambition, and AVO Trade-In may become a regional blueprint for device circularity.
