Blancco expands wearables support for Apple asset processing

Blancco Technology Group, a leading provider of mobile lifecycle and data erasure solutions, has announced an expansion of its Blancco Eraser for Apple Devices. The updated solution now supports the latest Apple Watch and AirPods models, offering a more complete and scalable erasure and diagnostics process across the entire range of Apple electronics. The update reinforces Blancco’s position as the go-to provider for secure Apple device processing.

Wearables drive second-hand device growth

The global wearables market reached nearly 535 million units in 2024, showing a 5.4% annual growth, according to IDC. Refurbished and used wearables alone were valued at approximately € 66 billion in 2024 and are expected to increase to € 234 billion by 2034. Apple currently leads the global market in both smartwatches and wireless headphones, with 40% and 23% market share respectively.

Apple ID locks complicate reuse

One of the key barriers in refurbishing and processing used Apple devices remains the presence of user-linked data such as iCloud Activation Lock. Devices that are still paired to Apple IDs or nearby Apple devices can block resale, cause returns, or pose security risks. Blancco’s enhanced erasure solution detects these states and alerts processors before resale, protecting downstream buyers and brands.

Trusted partner in ITAD and recycling

Industry leaders like ERI, a major US-based ITAD and mobility recycler, have welcomed the expansion. John Shegerian, ERI’s Chairman and CEO, said: “We continue to be impressed by Blancco's comprehensive and trusted processing services and are grateful for their ever-expanding capabilities.”

Streamlined processing reduces complexity

Companies involved in the secondary market often use multiple vendors to manage the variety of devices entering the resale chain. The updated Blancco Eraser for Apple Devices simplifies this challenge by offering a unified platform for diagnostics and certified erasure, now including wearables. This helps reduce operational costs and ensures compliance across an increasingly diverse product mix.
