US based Basatne, a large player in the global secondary market, has acquired UAE-based Cartlow, a pioneer in re-commerce and sustainable device management. This acquisition strengthens Basatne’s presence in the Middle East, leveraging Cartlow’s technology to enhance circular economy practices. The acquisition comes at a crucial time, as the Middle East generates over 3 million metric tonnes of e-waste annually. The UAE ranks among the highest in per capita electronic waste production. With the regional re-commerce market expected to exceed € 28 billion by 2028, the partnership between Basatne and Cartlow is set to drive sustainable change.
Cartlow’s impact on sustainability
Cartlow has already recirculated over 1 million electronic devices, preventing 100,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to removing over 21,000 cars from the road for a year. By extending product lifecycles, Cartlow has generated over € 125 million in value, showcasing the environmental and economic benefits of circular commerce.
Accelerating circular economy adoption
With its integration into Basatne Group, Cartlow’s solutions will scale circularity efforts, fostering a mature and globally integrated ecosystem. The vision is to recirculate millions of devices across multiple channels and position the company as a global leader in circular commerce.
Strategic vision for a sustainable future
“This acquisition marks a pivotal step in shaping our global circular ecosystem,” said Ammar Aboulnasr, CEO of Basatne. “With Cartlow’s integration, we complete a fully closed-loop ecosystem, accelerating the transition to a structured, scalable circular economy.”
Cartlow’s CEO, Mohammad Sleiman, emphasized the synergy between the two companies. “This collaboration enables us to expand our technology beyond the region and revolutionize device lifecycle management.”
Aligning with sustainability initiatives
The acquisition aligns with major sustainability goals, including the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy and Saudi Vision 2030. As the UAE emerges as a hub for green technology, Basatne and Cartlow will play a crucial role in accelerating the adoption of responsible trade and consumption practices.
