Apple announced that starting tomorrow 29 May 2025, its Self Service Repair program will include iPad models for the first time. Consumers with compatible devices can access official repair manuals, Apple Diagnostics tools, and original Apple parts. The supported iPad models include the iPad Air (M2 and newer), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16). Repairable components include displays, batteries, cameras, and charging ports.
Customers and repairers get more access
The Self Service Repair program, which began in 2022, allows individuals to repair their Apple devices using the same tools and parts available to Apple Stores and authorized service providers. With the addition of these iPad models, Apple now supports Self Service repairs for 65 products, including the Apple iPhone 16e, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio.
Apple aims to increase product lifespan
Brian Naumann, Vice President of AppleCare, emphasized Apple’s goal to make devices last longer. "We are expanding our repair services to more customers, allowing them to extend the life of their products while maintaining safety, security, and privacy,” he stated.
New options for independent repairers
Apple is also expanding its Genuine Parts Distributor program, launched to give repair businesses without a direct Apple relationship, like IRP or AASP, access to official components. In Europe, distributors include Mobileparts.shop and MobileSentrix both showcasing at Retech Days last week in Berlin. From tomorrow, they will offer Apple iPad parts in addition to those for Apple iPhone models. The initiative supports third-party technicians with a wide range of parts and tools.
Repair options now in 34 countries
This summer, Canada will become the 34th country to support Self Service Repair. The expansion reflects Apple’s broader effort to improve access to professional-quality repairs, whether through Self Service, Apple Stores, or independent technicians.
