Apple ramps up India-based exports of components to China and Vietnam

Apple’s Indian suppliers have started exporting components for Apple iPhones, MacBooks, AirPods, Watch, and other devices to China and Vietnam for the first time. Companies such as Motherson Group, Jabil, Aequs, and Tata Electronics are manufacturing these mechanics, including enclosures, from scratch before shipping them for final assembly at international locations.

Apple strengthens its local ecosystem

According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple is expanding its domestic procurement efforts beyond iPhones and their key components. This move aims to deepen value addition within India and create a stronger local ecosystem for Apple’s supply chain. The initiative is part of Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its supply chain globally.

Foxconn and Jabil expand Indian operations

Apple’s key suppliers, including Foxconn and Jabil, have been increasing their manufacturing capacity in India. These expansions come as part of the company’s larger efforts to scale production and support growing global demand.

Record-breaking iPhone exports from India

In 2024, Apple achieved a major milestone by surpassing INR 1 lakh crore in iPhone exports from India. The total export value reached $12.8 billion (approximately INR 1.08 lakh crore), reflecting a 42% increase from the previous year. Additionally, domestic production saw an impressive 46% year-on-year growth, reaching $17.5 billion (INR 1.48 lakh crore).

Apple assembles new Apple iPhone 16e in India

Apple has also begun local assembly of the newly launched Apple iPhone 16e through its contract manufacturers in India. The company is producing these units for the domestic market while also exporting them to other countries. This latest development underlines Apple’s long-term commitment to making India a significant hub for manufacturing and exports.
