Apkudo expands smartwatch processing with CypherBlk partnership

Apkudo has announced a partnership with CypherBlk, integrating its TimeShield platform into the Powered by Apkudo ecosystem. This collaboration introduces the industry’s first ADISA-certified solution for processing Apple Watch and WearOS devices. The move expands Apkudo’s Device Passport platform and gives customers an automated, secure, and scalable way to manage the complexities of the secondary smartwatch market.

A growing smartwatch resale opportunity

The global refurbished wearable market is forecast to reach € 25.2 billion by 2032, according to Custom Market Insights. Despite this growth, processing used smartwatches has remained a weak link in the circular device economy. Operators face significant challenges, including data security risks, fraud detection, a lot of manual work, and the absence of standardized solutions. These gaps have limited adoption of trade-in programs and left much of the potential value in smartwatch resales untapped.

TimeShield addresses major security concerns

CypherBlk’s TimeShield platform directly tackles these issues. It prevents devices from being resold with the previous owner’s active cellular plan, mitigating serious security risks. It also authenticates components, detecting counterfeit replacements such as batteries and ensuring device integrity. This information is added automatically to Apkudo’s Device Passport, creating a reliable and transparent record for each smartwatch.

Automation replaces manual processes

Until now, smartwatch processing has relied heavily on manual workflows, often resulting in inconsistent data erasure and poor fraud prevention. TimeShield changes this dynamic by combining asset intelligence, ADISA-certified erasure, and automated diagnostics into a single process. For Apple Watch and WearOS devices, this means secure and efficient processing at scale, while reducing labor costs and boosting throughput.

CypherBlk joins the Apkudo ecosystem

“Joining the Powered by Apkudo ecosystem is a pivotal step in bringing our advanced smartwatch processing technology to the broader market,” said Andrew Kroeger, Co-Founder of CypherBlk. He emphasized that operators have been leaving significant value untapped and that trusted data is essential to grow the secondary wearable market.

Josh Matthews, Co-Founder and CEO of Apkudo, added: “Our vision is to provide the foundational operating system for the entire connected device ecosystem. Integrating CypherBlk’s best-in-class smartwatch processing is a perfect example of this vision in action.”

Transforming the secondary smartwatch market

The partnership delivers immediate value for Apkudo customers. Automated workflows enable consistent, certified data sanitization and faster throughput. With accurate grading and trusted diagnostics, businesses can expand confidently into smartwatch trade-in programs, capturing higher resale margins and unlocking new supply channels.

For the first time, the secondary market gains a comprehensive, certified solution for Apple Watch and WearOS devices, bringing wearables into the same standardized processing framework as smartphones.
