Apkudo, a U.S.-based provider of automated processing and grading technology, is driving the circular economy forward with its data-centric platform. The company aims to address the growing e-waste challenge by extending the lifecycle of connected devices. Founded with the vision that devices connect the world, Apkudo ensures that these connections remain sustainable. According to its recently published Impact Report, in 2024, Apkudo expanded its platform to serve operators across the entire connected device ecosystem. The company’s solutions help businesses maximize profits while reducing environmental impact. Its technology provides key industry insights, offering tracking systems that enhance transparency and sustainability efforts. Apkudo’s approach ensures that devices, which might otherwise end up in landfills, find new users instead.
E-waste: a growing global crisis
The urgency of Apkudo’s mission is underscored by alarming global e-waste projections. By 2030, e-waste generation is expected to reach 82 million metric tons, a 32% increase from 2022. The current consumption rate suggests that humanity would require 2.3 planets' worth of resources by 2050. Apkudo addresses these concerns by optimizing reuse, resale, and component recycling, reducing the need for new device production.
Significant environmental impact in 2024
Apkudo’s efforts in 2024 delivered some impressive and measurable results:
- 136.3 billion liters of water saved, equivalent to the annual use of 548,000 U.S. households.
- 1.08 million metric tons of CO2 emissions avoided, equal to the energy consumption of 136,000 U.S. homes.
- €. 3.3 billion in resale value generated through processed devices.
- 250 kilograms of gold preserved, reducing demand for new smartphone production.
- 16 million devices processed through Apkudo’s platform.
- 6,010 metric tons of e-waste diverted from landfills.
Recently Apkudo started a cooperation with Samsung US. Samsung selected Apkudo as their new US triage partner. Also, Apkudo started cooperation with German based Cyculus, that offers Device Processing as a Service.
Third-party validation and sustainability reporting
In 2023, Apkudo developed an environmental impact model to quantify benefits from device reuse. In 2024, the company partnered with EcoAct, a Schneider Electric division, to validate its methodology against ISO standards. This allows Apkudo to provide customers with carbon footprint data and customized sustainability reports, strengthening their commitment to transparency.

Looking ahead to 2025
Apkudo plans to enhance its sustainability reporting by integrating Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data, a crucial requirement for many clients. The company will launch new tools to help businesses model and communicate their impact, including benchmarking analyses, internal education programs, and tailored consultancy services. By increasing data accessibility, Apkudo aims to further drive circular economy initiatives.
Transparency as the key to sustainability
Apkudo believes that transparency is essential for a truly circular economy. By providing clients with reliable data and detailed reports, the company helps extend device lifespans, reduce waste, and optimize value recovery. Apkudo’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement ensures that its customers stay ahead in sustainability efforts, turning challenges into opportunities.
