After recent funding refurbed launches Belgian marketplace

Refurbed, Europe’s fastest-growing online marketplace for refurbished electronics, has officially launched its marketplace in Belgium. The platform, already active in multiple European countries, now offers Belgian consumers access to a wide selection of high-quality, sustainable alternatives to new products. Founded in Vienna in 2017, refurbed’s mission is to make sustainable consumption simple, affordable, and mainstream. Each product sold through the platform helps reduce CO₂ emissions and electronic waste by an average of 80% compared to new device production.

Belgian market ready for used and refurbished

According to co-founder Kilian Kaminski, Belgium is ready for a more accessible refurbished market. “While second-hand platforms are growing in popularity, there is still room to significantly improve access to refurbished goods,” he said. “Refurbed wants to make consumption habits in Belgium more sustainable and raise awareness about the environmental and financial benefits of refurbished products, without compromising on quality.” The launch aims to build consumer trust and establish a strong foothold in a country where circular economy principles are becoming increasingly relevant.

Aiming to become the “green Amazon”

Refurbed’s long-term ambition is to evolve into a “green Amazon,” a comprehensive marketplace where consumers can find almost anything sustainably produced or refurbished. The company already offers a broad product portfolio that extends beyond electronics to include household appliances and sports equipment. This diversification reflects Refurbed’s goal of creating a one-stop shop for sustainable living.

Financial growth and new investment

In parallel with its Belgian launch, refurbed has completed a major € 50 million funding round. The investment was led by Alex Zubillaga, known for his involvement with Spotify, Fever, and Wallapop, and Orilla, the investment vehicle of the Riberas family, which has backed marketplaces like Vinted, Playtomic, and Cabify. Existing investors Evli Growth Partners, Bonsai, Almaz, C4 Ventures, and Speedinvest also participated.

Less than two years after its Series C, this round underscores the accelerating momentum of the circular economy. Refurbed achieved 40% year-on-year growth in 2025, double-digit EBITDA profitability, and positive cash flow since March. The company, which employs around 250 people across Europe, targets a gross merchandise value of nearly € 1 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.

A strong signal for circular growth

Refurbed’s expansion into Belgium comes at a time when consumer awareness around e-waste and sustainability is surging. By combining refurbished technology with transparency, service quality, and convenience, Refurbed continues to position itself as a key driver of Europe’s transition toward a more circular, low-carbon economy.
