Apple has quietly introduced a new battery-saving function in iOS 26 called Adaptive Power Mode. Unlike the well-known Low Power Mode, which activates at 20% battery, the new setting continuously monitors usage and makes subtle adjustments when the system detects higher-than-usual power consumption. The feature is aimed at prolonging battery life without significantly affecting performance or user experience.
How Adaptive Power Mode works
According to recent reports, Adaptive Power Mode works by making minor adjustments such as lowering the display brightness or slightly slowing down background processes. Apple describes these as "small performance adjustments" designed to extend battery life. For example, it may let some actions take longer or reduce visual effects when the iPhone is using more power than normal.
Not available for all Apple iPhones
Although iOS 26 supports a wide range of Apple iPhone models, Adaptive Power Mode is only available on devices that support Apple Intelligence. This limits the feature to the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, all Apple iPhone 16 models, and the upcoming Apple iPhone 17 series. Older devices running Apple iOS 26 will not benefit from this enhancement.
Enhancing battery life without user input
One of the key innovations of Adaptive Power Mode is that it operates automatically in the background. The user does not need to manually activate it, unlike Low Power Mode. This hands-off approach marks a step forward in Apple’s broader ambition to enhance battery efficiency using intelligent software.
